Introduced to the public on April 17, 1964, at the New York World’s Fair, the Mustang was an instant hit for Ford Motor Company, selling over one million units in the first eighteen months of production. With almost 10 million units sold to date, the Mustang has been in continuous production since 1964 and is currently Ford’s longest-produced model.
As one of Ford’s most iconic models, the Mustang launched the U.S. “pony car” segment and ultimately led to the development of the Chevrolet Camaro, Pontiac Firebird, AMC Javelin, and Dodge Challenger.
